Cicada Cinema is proud to present in partnership with Indiana University Arts and Humanities Council and the 2022 Granfalloon Festival, two FREE screenings of The World of Tomorrow: The First Three Episodes for the first time in Indiana anywhere. These films were programmed by Cicada Cinema in the spirit of the Granfalloon, wanting to celebrate community without zealotry and showcase a piece of science fiction influenced by Kurt Vonnegut's hopeful cynicism and post-modern yet bitter sweet sense of humor.

Synopsis: A little girl is taken on a mind-bending tour of her distant future. That little girl is then visited by a backup clone of herself from an even more distant future. Another figure named David is thrust across the far reaches of time and space to solve a deadly mystery involving his time-traveling future selves.

These are just tips of the iceberg for Don Hertzfeldt's sweeping, ambitious and ongoing collection of hand drawn animated science fiction films titled The World of Tomorrow. Don Hertzfeldt is a two-time Academy Award nominated American independent filmmaker whose animated films include It's Such a Beautiful Day, The Meaning of Life, and Rejected. His work has played around the world, receiving over 250 awards, and in 2014 made a special guest appearance on The Simpsons. Eight of his films have screened in competition at the Sundance Film Festival, where he is the only filmmaker to have won the overall Grand Jury Prize for Short Film twice. After creating animated films for over twenty years using traditional tools (pencil, paper, and 35mm cameras), World of Tomorrow was Hertzfeldt's first 100% digital production.

These FREE community screenings. Cicada Cinema hopes to kick off Granfalloon: A Kurt Vonnegut Convergence with a shared stirring of emotions, thought and laughter.
