Cicada Cinema is a volunteer run 501(c)(3) non profit movie theater located in beautiful Bloomington, Indiana.

Cicada Cinema was started by five Bloomington volunteers at the much-missed warehouse venue The Void on Halloween 2016. When The Void became…well…a void, Cicada rolled with the punches and began “popping up” across town, showing movies anywhere we could fit a screen and speakers. We've screened films at the Orbit Room, the Back Door, Hopscotch Coffee, the FAR Center for Contemporary Arts, and more, and thanks to support from our many community partners, 67 of those films have been completely free to the public! For nearly ten years, we schlepped our equipment across town hundreds of times, supported all the while by Bloomington's knowledgeable, curious, and generous film community.

Now, we are working on our next big project - a brick and mortar movie house. Cicada Cinema will be located right off the B-Line at 615 N Fairview, Suite 1 right next door to our friends at Friendly Beasts. We are currently in the buildout phase, and hope to open in October 2026.
